India begin their five-match T20I series against West Indies in Lucknow on October 6, with Jasprit Bumrah’s absence putting the spotlight on a younger pace attack. Arshdeep Singh is the most experienced option, while Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav bring pace and potential but limited international experience. Nitish Kumar Reddy provides another seam-bowling option.

Mayank’s return after injury will be closely watched, while Prince’s journey from net bowler to India selection adds another layer to the series. The bigger challenge will be replacing Bumrah’s control, particularly during the death overs.

India arrive with confidence after retaining their Asian Games T20 title. Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma impressed during the campaign, while Ishan Kishan also contributed strongly. Sanju Samson will be eager to find rhythm, with the competition for batting spots remaining intense.

West Indies, meanwhile, enter the series after a morale-boosting ODI win. Shai Hope’s unbeaten 162 powered them to a record chase against India, while players such as Shimron Hetmyer, Sherfane Rutherford and Romario Shepherd add firepower.

Lucknow’s relatively low-scoring T20 record could make batting first important. For India, the opener is less about simply winning and more about finding out whether the next generation can handle the pressure. Because apparently, replacing Bumrah comes with a tiny little expectation problem.
