Iran has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of orchestrating the Flydubai cockpit incident as a “false flag” operation. The allegation was made in a Press TV report and has not been independently established.

According to the report, the alleged incident was intended to divert attention from controversy surrounding the October 7 Hamas attack, strengthen Netanyahu politically ahead of Israel’s October 27 election and create grounds for renewed confrontation with Iran.

The claims follow widespread speculation on social media, where posts have alleged that Israel or Mossad staged the incident. Israel has rejected such conspiracy theories, with its embassy in Australia calling the “false flag” claims antisemitic.

The Flydubai flight FZ1073, travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv with 174 passengers, including 27 children, sent emergency signals before making a sharp descent of more than 17,000 feet and diverting to Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk.

US President Donald Trump said Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps could potentially be linked to the cockpit attack, while investigations continued. He also warned that Iran could face a strong response if a connection were established.

The competing claims highlight how quickly one aviation incident has become part of the wider political and military tensions involving Israel, Iran and the Gulf.
