Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2026 to Be Announced Today
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences will announce the 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry in Stockholm on October 7, marking the third science prize of this year’s Nobel Week.
The 2026 Nobel Week moves to its third science prize on Wednesday, with the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences set to announce the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in Stockholm. The official Nobel schedule lists the announcement for October 7 at 11:45 am Central European Summer Time, or 3:15 pm IST, at the earliest.
The Chemistry announcement follows the Medicine and Physics prizes. Medicine went to Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel for discoveries involving light-gated ion channels and optogenetics, while Francis Halzen received the Physics Nobel for contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy astrophysical neutrinos.
Chemistry has been one of the Nobel Prize fields since the first awards in 1901. The field has recognised breakthroughs spanning molecular structures, biological processes, catalysts, materials and technologies.
The identities of nominees remain secret for 50 years, meaning names circulating before the announcement are speculation rather than official shortlists. The answer will come from Stockholm, where the Academy will reveal this year’s laureate or laureates.
Science has delivered two major surprises already this week. Chemistry now gets its turn.
