Russia has welcomed India’s readiness to contribute to diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the Ukraine conflict, following reports of a new Indian proposal for a possible ceasefire.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Moscow was grateful for India’s willingness to contribute and for the ideas being put forward. The response followed comments from Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, who said Kyiv had received proposals from India, Türkiye, Egypt and the United States.

Sybiha described India’s proposal as the broadest and said Ukraine was prepared to consider a ceasefire covering combat operations, energy infrastructure and the Black Sea. Kyiv has also continued to call for an unconditional ceasefire along the front line, while Moscow has argued for a broader peace agreement.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously said Prime Minister Narendra Modi regularly raises the Ukraine conflict during their meetings and has “very good ideas” aimed at finding mutually acceptable solutions.

The latest developments come as fighting continues, with Russia and Ukraine carrying out attacks involving missiles and drones. The Black Sea remains a key area of concern because of military activity affecting ports, infrastructure and commercial shipping.

India’s role highlights New Delhi’s continued emphasis on dialogue and diplomacy, although any ceasefire proposal will ultimately depend on agreement among the parties involved.
