Tensions in the Middle East continued to escalate as Iran accused the United States of sinking one of its naval vessels in the Indian Ocean, marking a significant development in the ongoing conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran.
According to statements from Iranian officials, the warship IRIS Dena was reportedly struck by a US submarine in international waters.
Iran criticises the reported naval strike
Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said the attack represented a dangerous escalation in the conflict. In a statement shared on social media, he claimed the Iranian frigate had been operating in international waters and had previously visited India as a guest of the Indian Navy.
He said the vessel was carrying nearly 130 sailors at the time of the incident and alleged that it was struck without warning.
The Iranian government described the reported strike as a serious development in the expanding regional confrontation.
Conflict spreads across multiple fronts
The war involving the United States, Israel and Iran has entered its sixth day, with military exchanges reported across several locations in the Middle East.
Iran has launched multiple missile strikes toward Israel, while Israeli forces have reportedly carried out attacks targeting positions linked to Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Explosions were also reported in several parts of the region as defensive systems were activated in response to incoming missiles.
Rising casualties and humanitarian concerns
Officials and media reports indicate that casualties have increased as the conflict continues.
Reports suggest that more than 1,000 people have died in Iran, while dozens of deaths have been reported in Lebanon and Israel. Several US military personnel were also reported killed in earlier attacks in the region.
Humanitarian agencies say thousands of civilians have left parts of Tehran amid ongoing airstrikes and security concerns.
Economic impact spreads globally
The conflict has also begun affecting global trade and energy markets.
Attacks near the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route for oil exports, have disrupted tanker movement and reduced maritime traffic. Energy prices have risen in global markets as companies reassess shipping routes due to security risks.
Financial markets have also reacted to the uncertainty, with investors closely monitoring developments in the region.
Political reactions in the United States
In Washington, the US Senate rejected a proposal that aimed to limit President Donald Trump’s authority to continue military operations against Iran.
The vote indicated support among many lawmakers for ongoing military actions, although debates continue over the scope of presidential war powers.
US officials have stated that ground troops are not currently planned, but have not ruled out further military options if the situation escalates.
