A 22-year-old MBBS student was killed and three others were injured after a speeding SUV reportedly hit a group of motorcycles in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, police officials said.
The incident took place on Wednesday night around 9 pm on the Mohaddipur Overbridge under the Shahpur police station area.
Student died at the scene
According to police and reports citing news agency ANI, the victim has been identified as Akash Pandey, a third-year MBBS student at Baba Raghav Das Medical College.
Officials said the impact of the collision was severe, and the student died at the scene.
Three other bikers involved in the accident were injured. Police said two of them suffered serious injuries, while another person sustained minor injuries.
Driver arrested after accident
Police confirmed that the SUV driver, identified as Golden Sahni, has been taken into custody.
Authorities have also seized the vehicle involved in the crash as part of the investigation.
Case registered by police
According to Gorakhpur SP City Abhinav Tyagi, a case has been registered in connection with the incident.
Police said the case has been filed under culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and further investigation is underway.
Officials added that strict action will be taken according to the law.
The incident has raised concerns about road safety and speeding vehicles on city roads, particularly during evening hours when traffic movement increases.
