India Denies Claims of US Using Its Ports in Iran Conflict

MEA rejects claims that the US Navy is using Indian ports for military operations against Iran, calling the reports false and misleading.

India Denies Claims of US Using Its Ports in Iran Conflict

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has rejected claims circulating online that the United States is using Indian ports or naval bases for operations against Iran amid the ongoing Middle East conflict.

Officials described the reports as “fake and false”, urging the public to avoid spreading unverified information.

Claim surfaced during media interview

The claim reportedly originated from comments made by former US Army Colonel Douglas Macgregor during an interview with a US-based television channel.

During the discussion, Macgregor suggested that the United States might be relying on Indian ports after some of its regional bases were damaged.

MEA issues clarification

Responding to the statement, the MEA’s fact-check unit addressed the issue on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

The ministry said that the suggestion that US naval forces were operating from Indian ports was incorrect and baseless.

Officials also cautioned against spreading fabricated claims related to India’s role in the ongoing conflict.

India expresses concern over Middle East tensions

India has meanwhile expressed deep concern over the escalating conflict in the Middle East, urging all sides to exercise restraint and avoid further escalation.

New Delhi has called for efforts to ensure the safety of civilians and maintain regional stability.

Background of the conflict

The current tensions began after joint military operations by the United States and Israel targeting Iranian positions, which were followed by retaliatory missile attacks from Iran against Israel and US-linked installations in the region.

The conflict has also affected aviation routes, global energy markets and security conditions across parts of the Middle East.

Reports indicate that the situation continues to evolve, with international leaders closely monitoring developments and urging diplomatic solutions.
