PM Modi Inaugurates Delhi’s First Ring Metro

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated two new corridors of the Delhi Metro, marking a key milestone in the capital’s public transport network. With the latest expansion, Delhi has become the first city in India to operate a fully functional Ring Metro system.

The newly opened Majlis Park–Maujpur–Babarpur stretch of the Pink Line is around 12.3 kilometres long and includes several elevated stations. Officials said the project aims to improve connectivity between different parts of the city and make daily commuting easier.

According to government estimates, the infrastructure projects unveiled during the event involve a total investment of about ₹33,500 crore, including ₹18,300 crore allocated for Delhi Metro expansions.

New Pink Line Stretch Opens

The inauguration of the new Pink Line segment expands the line to 71.56 kilometres, completing the city’s Ring Metro network.

Stations along the newly operational corridor include:

  • Majlis Park

  • Burari

  • Jharoda Majra

  • Jagatpur–Wazirabad

  • Soorghat

  • Nanaksar–Sonia Vihar

  • Khajuri Khas

  • Bhajanpura

  • Yamuna Vihar

  • Maujpur–Babarpur

Officials said the corridor is expected to benefit residents of North-East and North-West Delhi, offering faster travel between key residential areas and major transport hubs.

Magenta Line Extension Also Opened

Along with the Pink Line project, the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park section of the Magenta Line, measuring 9.9 kilometres, was also inaugurated.

Transport officials said these additions will help reduce travel time and improve connectivity across several neighbourhoods, including Burari, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar, Madhuban Chowk, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Bhalaswa, and Majlis Park.

The metro expansion is also expected to provide improved access for commuters travelling from nearby National Capital Region (NCR) cities such as Noida and Faridabad, as well as those heading toward Indira Gandhi International Airport.

New Metro Projects Announced

During the event, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for three additional metro corridors under Phase V-A of the Delhi Metro project. These planned routes will cover a combined length of 16.10 kilometres.

Officials said the upcoming corridors are expected to further strengthen the city’s public transport network and support future urban growth.

Housing Redevelopment Projects

In addition to metro developments, the Prime Minister also inaugurated and launched projects under the Government Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Redevelopment Plan.

The redevelopment initiative, valued at approximately ₹15,200 crore, will modernise government residential and office spaces in Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Kasturba Nagar, and Sriniwaspuri.

Authorities said the project will create more than 9,350 residential flats for government employees and around 48 lakh square feet of office space.

The redevelopment is being implemented through a self-financing model, where a portion of the project area will be commercially monetised to support overall development costs.

Focus on Urban Mobility

Officials said the new metro corridors and redevelopment projects are expected to improve urban mobility and infrastructure in the national capital.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, speaking about the metro expansion, said the new routes are likely to ease traffic congestion, improve commuting conditions, and contribute to reducing pollution levels in the city.

With the completion of the Ring Metro system, transport planners believe the capital’s metro network will become more efficient for daily commuters across multiple parts of Delhi.
