Five Indian nationals aboard a Kuwait-flagged tanker were safely brought ashore after the vessel was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, the Indian Embassy in Muscat said on Friday.

The tanker was identified as MT Kazimah III. The Indian mission said it coordinated the rescue and confirmed that all five Indian nationals were safely evacuated. It also thanked Omani authorities for their support and assistance during the operation.

The incident comes as commercial shipping faces heightened security risks across several key maritime routes in and around the Middle East, including the Strait of Hormuz, Gulf of Oman, Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and Black Sea.

More than 4,500 Indian seafarers are currently working aboard merchant vessels operating in the Persian Gulf, according to India's Ministry of External Affairs. The figure includes Indian nationals serving on active cargo vessels in the region.

India has also raised concerns at the United Nations over attacks involving commercial ships and seafarers during the ongoing regional conflict.

For the five rescued Indians, at least one dangerous voyage ended safely. The Strait of Hormuz, however, remains a high-risk route for crews still at sea.
