Matt Renshaw has surged 149 places to No. 49 in the latest ICC Test batting rankings after a remarkable performance against South Africa in Durban.

The Australian left-hander scored 190 in the first innings and followed it with 82 in the second. His efforts earned him the Player of the Match award as Australia secured a 214-run victory and took a 1-0 lead in the three-Test series.

Renshaw rescued Australia after the visitors slipped to 124 for six in their first innings. His 190 helped them recover and post 390. The century was his first in Test cricket since January 2017, when he scored his maiden hundred against Pakistan in Sydney.

He then continued his strong form in the second innings as Australia declared at 314 for six, setting South Africa a target of 421. Renshaw also took two wickets during the match.

Other players gained ground in the latest rankings update. Australia's Marnus Labuschagne climbed four places to 34th among Test batters, while South Africa's Aiden Markram moved up four spots to share 10th place.

Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood rose two places to seventh in the Test bowling rankings after taking six for 49 in Durban. Teammate Mitchell Starc continues to lead the bowling chart.

Australia will face South Africa in the second Test in Gqeberha from October 18, with Renshaw aiming to build on his impressive return to form.
