Sourav Ganguly Named Delhi Capitals Head Coach for IPL 2027
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly will take charge of Delhi Capitals as head coach for IPL 2027, replacing Hemang Badani after two seasons.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has been appointed head coach of Delhi Capitals for IPL 2027, replacing Hemang Badani. The move gives Ganguly his first head-coaching role in the IPL after several years with the franchise in different capacities.
Ganguly has been associated with Delhi Capitals since 2019 and has previously worked as Director of Cricket for both the men’s and women’s teams. He also oversaw Pretoria Capitals in the SA20, guiding them to the final.
Delhi finished sixth in IPL 2026 after placing fifth the previous season. The franchise has also moved on from bowling coach Munaf Patel, team director Venugopal Rao and assistant coach Ian Bell. Ganguly is expected to bring in his own support staff, with speculation linking Yuvraj Singh to his coaching setup.
Ganguly will work with captain Axar Patel, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, who returned to Delhi after IPL 2026.
He said the focus would be on building a “strong and fearless team” as Delhi prepare for the 2027 season.
With the IPL auction approaching, Ganguly’s first major task will be shaping the squad and coaching structure. For a man known for changing the mood of dressing rooms, the next challenge is doing it from the other side of the boundary rope.
