Rohit Sharma Spotted Talking to SKY Before Semi-Final Toss

A brief moment between Rohit Sharma and India captain Suryakumar Yadav drew attention ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final between India and England at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

Just before the toss, cameras captured Rohit Sharma—who led India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title—in conversation with Suryakumar Yadav. The exchange happened near the field and quickly caught the interest of fans watching the high-profile match.

High-stakes clash at Wankhede

The semifinal at the iconic Wankhede Stadium is a crucial encounter, with the winner earning a place in the tournament final.

At the toss, England captain Harry Brook chose to bowl first after winning the toss.

India captain Suryakumar Yadav said his side would have preferred to bat first but felt the pitch conditions were good for a competitive game.

“We were looking to bat first. Semifinal, big game, and there's wind around too. Don’t think there will be much dew. The pitch looks good,” Suryakumar said during the toss presentation.

England explains bowling decision

Harry Brook explained that England opted to bowl to try and make early breakthroughs with the ball.

He also acknowledged that India had more experience playing at the Mumbai venue.

Brook said the pitch appeared suitable for batting but added that the team hoped to start strongly with their bowling attack.

India and England’s journey to the semi-final

India entered the semi-final after a mixed campaign in the tournament. The team recorded several important wins during the group stage but also faced a setback against South Africa in the Super Eight stage.

However, victories against Zimbabwe and West Indies helped India secure a place in the knockout round.

England’s path to the semifinal also included ups and downs. The team struggled in some early matches but improved significantly in the Super Eight stage with strong performances against Sri Lanka, Pakistan and New Zealand.

These wins helped England become the first team to qualify for the semi-finals.

Record at Wankhede Stadium

Both teams have previous experience playing at the Wankhede Stadium during the tournament.

England had played two matches at the venue earlier, registering one win and one loss. India, meanwhile, had won their earlier match at the ground against the United States.

Historically, results between India and England at the venue have been evenly balanced, making the semi-final contest highly competitive.
