CJP Delhi Protest: Over 3,000 Detained as Ajinkya Shinde Urges March to Jantar Mantar
Security personnel detain protesters in Delhi during the CJP-led demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the electoral roll revision exercise.
More than 3,000 people were detained across Delhi on October 10 during protests organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and student groups against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The demonstrators were demanding accountability over allegations of electoral roll manipulation and calling for the withdrawal of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were detained shortly after their flight landed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. With senior leaders in custody, Ajinkya Shinde urged protesters to continue towards Jantar Mantar, saying they should demonstrate wherever police stopped them.

Several Opposition leaders were also detained, including Arvind Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee, Pinarayi Vijayan and Manik Sarkar, according to the report. Banerjee began a sit-in at a police station, alleging that she and other leaders had been taken away against their wishes.

Security restrictions were tightened across the capital, with more than 20,000 police and Central Armed Police Forces personnel deployed, according to the report. Connaught Place also witnessed detentions as protesters attempted to reach Jantar Mantar. Authorities said 45 metro stations would remain closed until 10 pm for security reasons.

Solidarity protests also took place in Mumbai, where hundreds were detained at August Kranti Maidan. Opposition leaders criticised the police action, while Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar called for young people’s concerns to be heard and citizens’ right to peaceful dissent to be protected.
