Sanjay Dutt has clarified that his recent remarks about not feeling peace in India were part of a scripted and humorous conversation on Shekhar Suman’s Shekhar Tonite. The actor said the comments did not represent his personal views and were intended as light-hearted satire.

Dutt made the remarks during a Gandhi Jayanti special episode, where he praised Indians as large-hearted and hospitable before saying he could no longer feel the same sense of peace in the country. The comments drew criticism and sparked debate on social media.

In his clarification, Dutt said the conversation was scripted and inspired by the humour and satirical spirit of Munna Bhai, particularly its message of “Gandhigiri”, love, togetherness and goodwill. He also said he never intended to hurt or disrespect anyone.

Shekhar Suman later defended Dutt, saying the actor’s remarks were positive in intent and had been misunderstood or taken out of context.

The episode has since raised a broader question about how scripted celebrity conversations are interpreted once they reach social media. Apparently, even a script can end up having its own plot twist.
