The Vvaan Producer Remembers Sharda Sinha After Chhath Song Wins Hearts
The Vvaan producer Arunabh Kumar paid tribute to late singer Sharda Sinha, whose iconic Chhath song features in the Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia starrer.
The Sharda Sinha Chhath song Pahile Pahil Hum Kayin has found a new audience through The Vvaan: Force of the Forest. The song plays during the film’s Chhath sequence and has reportedly prompted emotional reactions from viewers, with some even singing along in theatres.
Producer Arunabh Kumar paid tribute to the late folk singer on her birth anniversary, explaining why her voice was considered an important part of the film from its early stages.
Why Sharda Sinha’s Voice Was Chosen for The Vvaan
According to Arunabh Kumar, the idea of using Sharda Sinha’s music came while the film’s first draft was being developed. He and filmmaker Dipak Kumar Mishra were discussing how to visually present the Chhath sequences and felt that Sinha’s voice would be essential to creating the right atmosphere.
Kumar also recalled hearing her songs at home and later suggested including her music to Ektaa Kapoor and Dipak Mishra. The idea was accepted as a tribute to the singer, whose music has become closely associated with Chhath celebrations.
The producer also thanked Sharda Sinha’s family for allowing her musical legacy to become part of the film.
The Chhath Sequence Connects With Audiences
The Vvaan stars Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia and combines folk traditions with supernatural elements. The Chhath sequence takes place as the characters return to the fictional village of Devanchal, showing preparations and rituals surrounding the festival.
Sharda Sinha’s music has long been associated with Chhath, particularly across Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Her songs have also remained popular among people celebrating the festival away from their hometowns.
That cultural familiarity appears to have helped the sequence resonate with viewers. For many audiences, hearing Sinha’s unmistakable voice during a Chhath celebration brings an emotional connection that goes beyond the film itself.
Sharda Sinha’s Musical Legacy Lives On
Sharda Sinha, widely regarded as the “voice of Chhath”, died in November 2024 at the age of 72. Her songs continue to remain an important part of Chhath celebrations.
With The Vvaan, one of her most recognisable musical traditions has found a place in a contemporary Hindi film, introducing her work to another generation while preserving the cultural atmosphere of the festival on screen.
