Ashwini Vaishnaw Warns Global Allies Can Become Foes, Stresses Long-Term Planning
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has urged India to prepare for shifting global alliances and reduce vulnerabilities to foreign policy changes, highlighting long-term planning and domestic manufacturing as strategic priorities.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has called on India to prepare systematically for changes in global geopolitics, warning that international relationships can shift over time.
“There are times when friends will become foes,” Vaishnaw said, stressing the need for India to continually reassess its national strategy as global conditions evolve.
He said the country was planning across multiple time horizons, ranging from three to 25 years. This approach, he noted, would help India anticipate emerging challenges and identify vulnerabilities in its domestic production systems and economy.
Vaishnaw emphasised the importance of understanding how foreign policy decisions could affect Indian industries, supply chains and economic resilience. Reducing such dependencies, he suggested, would be an important part of preparing for an uncertain international environment.
The minister also highlighted India’s historical strengths in manufacturing. He argued that the country had the potential to regain a leading role in production after losing ground during the Industrial Revolution.
His remarks underline the importance of long-term economic planning, stronger domestic manufacturing capabilities and strategic preparedness as India responds to changing global relationships.
