Prahaar Trailer: Rajkummar Rao’s Film Revisits Kasab’s 26/11 Trial
Rajkummar Rao’s Prahaar trailer focuses on Ujjwal Nikam’s courtroom battle during Ajmal Kasab’s trial, including the controversial claim that Kasab was a minor.
Rajkummar Rao’s Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam takes the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks to the courtroom, focusing on the legal battle that followed the 2008 siege. Directed by Avinash Arun and produced by Maddock Films, the film portrays Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam’s efforts to prosecute Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving attacker.
The trailer highlights one of the trial’s striking twists: Kasab’s claim that he was only 17 and should therefore be tried as a juvenile. He reportedly also claimed that he had come to Mumbai as a tourist to see Amitabh Bachchan’s residence before being detained. The defence sought to move the case to a juvenile court, where the maximum sentence would have been significantly different.
Rajkummar Rao’s Nikam pushes back by stressing India’s legal process and constitutional safeguards while pursuing justice for the attacks. The trailer also depicts the international attention surrounding the trial and the pressure on the prosecution.
Sikandar Kher plays Kasab’s defence lawyer, while Ashish Vidyarthi, Jaideep Ahlawat, Wamiqa Gabbi and Nassar feature in supporting roles.
Prahaar is scheduled to release in theatres nationwide on October 16, bringing a courtroom-focused retelling of one of India’s most closely watched terror trials.
