Rekha Gupta Calls CJP AAP’s ‘B-Team’, Challenges It Over Punjab Activist’s Killing
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta accused the Cockroach Janta Party of advancing the AAP’s agenda and challenged it to protest the killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh in Punjab.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday accused the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) of acting as the Aam Aadmi Party’s “B-Team” and challenged the group to protest the killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh, also known as Jhota, in Punjab.
Speaking at a press conference, Gupta questioned why the youth-led outfit was protesting in Delhi over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls but had not raised similar concerns in opposition-ruled states.
Singh was shot dead in a market in Punjab’s Mansa district on October 13. He was known for campaigning against drug abuse and the alleged illegal sale of addictive substances at chemist shops.
Gupta also criticised CJP’s protests at Jantar Mantar, which was recently removed from the list of designated protest sites. She accused the organisation of disrupting daily life in the capital and inconveniencing residents.
CJP members reportedly breached barricades on Tuesday and entered the Jantar Mantar area, demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged electoral-roll irregularities.
Gupta further targeted the Congress and AAP for opposing the SIR exercise, arguing that they had not raised similar concerns in states where they had won elections. She defended the revision process, noting that the Election Commission had conducted SIR in 2002.
She also alleged that protests had caused substantial economic losses and accused opposition groups of acting against the country’s interests. These claims were made by Gupta during her address.
